What’s in it – and what isn’t

According to the label, all three varieties consist of water, carbon dioxide, natural flavouring and the acidifier citric acid. Sugar, sweeteners, colourings, preservatives and added vitamins do not appear in any list of ingredients.

This is not always the case with flavoured water. In 2026, the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Advice Centre tested nine products designed to flavour tap water – drops, sticks, syrups, liquid flavourings and tea bags. Seven out of eight water additives contained sweeteners, mostly sucralose, acesulfame K, saccharin or steviol glycosides. You can find out how to spot sugar and sweeteners on any label here: Drinks with no sugar and no sweeteners.

Make it yourself or buy it ready-made in a can?

You can also make flavoured water yourself, known as ‘infused water’, using fresh fruit, vegetables or herbs. The Rhineland-Palatinate Consumers’ Advice Centre advises: clean the jug thoroughly, prepare the water fresh, store it in the fridge and do not leave it standing for too long.

The can is the on-the-go option: one can holds 0.33 litres, which is exactly one serving; the best-before date is printed on the base of the can. Recipes for making your own flavoured water will follow in our article ‘How to make your own flavoured water’.

Three mocktails, three varieties

From our mocktail menu – alcohol-free and mixed in a jiffy:

Virgin Paloma

  • Pink Grapefruit
  • salt rim
  • Lime eighth
  • 2 dashes of non-alcoholic bitters
  • lots of ice

Green Zero

  • Lime & Mint
  • three slices of cucumber
  • Basil
  • Crushed ice
  • A pinch of salt

Bitter Zero

  • Citrus
  • 4 cl non-alcoholic bitter aperitif
  • orange slice
  • Ice right to the brim

The recipes are serving suggestions. If you’re avoiding sugar, check the label on ingredients such as the bitter aperitif.

Energy – Blackcurrant & Pomegranate: the variety containing caffeine

The fourth flavoured variety is not a flavoured water in the strict sense, but an energy drink: Energy – Blackcurrant & Pomegranate contains caffeine (32 mg per 100 ml) and taurine, and is also no sugar. Due to its high caffeine content, this variety is not recommended for children or for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Cans, deposits and pack sizes

All varieties are available in 0.33-litre cans and in trays of 24 cans. There is a €0.25 one-way deposit on each can. The recommended retail price is €1.29 per can. Find out where to buy ACQUA REAPER: Store Locator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which flavoured water doesn’t contain any sugar?

This is shown by the line ‘of which sugar’ in the nutrition facts table. A drink may be labelled ‘sugar-free’ if it contains no more than 0.5 g of sugar per 100 ml. According to the label, Pink Grapefruit, Lime & Mint and Citrus contain 0 g of sugar per 100 ml.

Does flavoured water contain sweetener?

That depends on the product. The NRW Consumer Advice Centre found sweeteners in seven out of eight water-based supplements such as Drops or Sticks. The lists of ingredients for Pink Grapefruit, Lime & Mint and Citrus do not list any sweeteners.

What else do you call flavoured water?

Even water infused with fruit or herbs is called ‘infused water’. Additives used to flavour water are sold as ‘flavoured water’. Our cans are labelled ‘Flavoured Water’.

How many calories are there in a can?

According to the label, all three varieties contain 1 kcal per 100 ml. A 330-ml can therefore contains around 3 kcal.
